Have you ever heard about Moxibustion? Moxibustion also often known as Moxa, is an herb in Chinese Medicine that has been effectively used for thousands of years.*

The way Moxa works are by burning it and safely placing the heat near the skin surface. The properties of this herb have been shown to produce impressive clinical results.

In this blog, I will go over three ways Moxibustion has been clinically efficacious to treat various medical diseases.

Moxibustion & Cancer

In a study from the Natural Institute of Health, they found that Moxibustion has been used to help support cancer treatments such as chemotherapy. What they found was that the consistent use of applying moxibustion helped mitigate side effects such as nausea and vomiting.*

Moxibustion and Infertility

Chinese Medicine is known to improve the rate of fertility in women. For infertility patients, a method known as Warm-needle-Moxibustion is used. In one study by the World Journal of Acupuncture-Moxibustion, they found that “Warming-needle moxibustion can increase the endometrial thickness to a certain extent, thus improving the endometrial receptivity, enhancing the embryo implantation rate, and improving the pregnancy outcome.”*

Moxibustion and Ulcerative Colitis

Ulcerative colitis is also known as inflammation along the colon and rectum. Common symptoms include abdominal pain, cramping, rectal bleeding, joint pains, and loose stools.

In a Pub Med study, they used Moxibustion on rat’s ulcerative colitis. What they found was that “Moxibustion repairs damaged colonic mucosa, suppresses serum IL-8, activates serum IL-10 level, and decreases expression of TLR-9 and NF-κB p65 in UC rats.” Essentially Moxa helped reduce the inflammatory responses during treatment.*
