The History of Chinese Medicine

TCM is rooted in the ancient philosophy of Taoism and dates back more than 2,500 years. It wasn’t until 1971, that the U.S was exposed to acupuncture.

In 1972-with the founding of the first U.S. acupuncture organization, the education of Chinese medicine expanded across the country. Soon after, states began enacting laws in regard to the training and practice of acupuncturists. Today, the United States licensed more than 27,000 practitioners of Chinese medicine.

Traditional Chinese Medicine is aimed at healing patients through finding the root of the diagnosis.* This practice emphasizes prevention, and each treatment option is customized to each patients needs.

When you arrive at Sophia, a TCM practitioner will listen to your medical history, and any list of symptoms or concerns you may have.
