Food sensitivities can cause a variety of different symptoms in people such as fatigue, mental fogginess or stomach cramps.

One common type of food sensitivity is a delayed immune response to a particular food which is also known as an *IgG food allergy. With this type of food allergy, symptoms may not show up for 1-2 days later after consuming that item and therefore, the foods that are bothersome may be difficult to detect. Fortunately, there are ways to figure out if the foods you are eating all the time are causing the headaches that you are always experiencing or contributing to your chronic sinus problems.

Food Sensitivities - SOPHIA Natural HealthThe first way is to consider an elimination diet. An elimination diet is where you eliminate certain foods for a designated period of time and then reintroduce them one at a time in order to see what foods you have reactions to. There are different types of elimination diets, but usually you are eliminating the most common food allergens such as wheat, dairy, alcohol, corn, soy, fatty types of meat and other food items depending on what is best for you. An elimination diet can be very useful in determining your food sensitivities by knowing exactly what you react to. However, the person needs to be disciplined in order to complete it as you are limiting what you can eat for at least a couple months.

Another way to determine your food sensitivities is through blood tests and there are different labs that offer these IgG food allergy tests. These tests can be very useful by allowing you to know what foods you are sensitive to in a relative short amount of time. Working with your healthcare practitioner who ran the test will allow you to have a plan of action as to what should be done after discovering your sensitivities in order to best support your health. This will likely include having an individualized diet plan and having a good understanding of what the test results are saying in conjunction with the symptoms you are experiencing.

The last way is through NAET which is natural, non-invasive allergy elimination technique for the diagnosis and treatment of allergies. Knowledge from acupuncture and Chinese medicine is used in this desensitization method that reduces or eliminates food and environmental allergies from sensitive people. NAET may be optimal for kids, for example, who have a hard time staying away from certain foods for a long period of time or are resistant to getting their blood drawn.
