Acupuncture is a technique in which practitioners stimulate specific points on the body. It is one of the practices used in traditional Chinese medicine used to balance the body’s systems. Your Qi will flow through hundreds of acupuncture points in the body. During an acupuncture session, a Sophia doctor will insert tiny, sterile needs into these points to help bring your energy flow back into a proper balance.*
Secondary Acupuncture Therapies
This treatment reduces inflammation, improves blood flow, and is generally relaxing. Heated glass cups are applied to the skin along the meridians of the body, creating suction as a way of stimulating the flow of energy.
A medical and surgical technique involving the production of heat in a part of the body by high-frequency electric currents, to stimulate the circulation, relieve pain, destroy unhealthy tissue, or cause bleeding vessels to clot.
Moxibustion is a Traditional Chinese Medical technique that involves burning a spongy herb called mugwort over the affected area. This is another method we offer to our Stamford patients in order to stimulate blood flow and promote the healing process.*
One of our services is Tui Na. Part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), it is used as a therapeutic massage and body work to help balance out the body. It harmonizes yin and yang in your body by manipulating the Qi (pronounced “chee”), a vital energy that circulates your body, which is used to help to treat the body as a whole.
Tui Na is a natural treatment that is very popular for that treating traumas, injuries and musculoskeletal problems. We will often use to replace acupuncture when it is not suitable for the patient, such as when we treat children.
