What is HRV?

Have you heard about HRV (Heart Rate Variability)? – Most likely not. The reason is because most conventional Doctors never look at one’s HRV numbers.

HRV is when you measure the variation of time differences between your heart rate.

In other words, HRV is a measurement of the length of each heartbeat interval. For instance, every time you inhale – the heart rate increases. Every time you exhale – your heart rate decreases.

Basically, the higher your HRV is – the better. A low HRV would indicate one major factor – hyperactivity of your nervous system.

When one is stuck in that sympathetic or “fight or flight” mode, the nervous system will be unbalanced. Therefore, you will take more unconscious shallow breaths.

It should go without saying, there is something to be said about why HRV is important.

Why is HRV Important?

According to the American Heart Association, in one ARIC study, “Low heart rate variability (HRV) is associated with a higher risk of death in patients with heart disease and in elderly subjects and with a higher incidence of coronary heart disease (CHD) in the general population.”

Not only that,  knowing your HRV can help you take the necessary steps to improve your numbers – and your health.

Where can you go to check HRV?

HRV is a non-invasive test checked commonly by Functional Medical practitioners. At the SOPHIA Natural Health Center, what makes us unique is our approach to treating common health problems. Early on in treatment, at the exam, we test the patient for any possible hidden barriers to healing – HRV included.

To learn what your HRV is, schedule a free consultation by calling SOPHIA Natural Health Center (203) 740-9300.
